“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11
Prior to the birth of Jesus, GOD worked in certain individuals to provide salvation for His people. GOD saw the oppression of His people in Exodus 3:8 and heard their cries. He responded by choosing Moses to lead Israel out of Egyptian bondage. The book of Judges is filled with deliverers. GOD worked through various individuals to deliver His people from oppression. The judges acted as saviors for Israel. While GOD was certainly working in each of these individuals to provide deliverance, GOD’S work in Christ, made Jesus a unique Savior.
“…that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them…” 2nd Corinthians 5:19
“…we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.” 1st John 4:14
The Savior status of Jesus was not restricted. His mission was not limited to deliverance of a particular group, at a precise time, from a specific nation. The mission of Jesus as Savior, extended backwards to the Garden of Eden and continues to reach forward until the end of time. He is deliverer for all of mankind, past, present, and future. The enemy that He delivers us from is sin.
“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John1:29
