Specific truth acknowledged by Nebuchadnezzar, the Chaldean Wise Men, and Daniel in Daniel 2 – “Help from a divine source was necessary to tell and interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.”
The Babylonian King, the Chaldean wisemen and Daniel agreed that divine revelation was needed to fulfill the king’s request. (Daniel 2:9,11,18, 20-23, 27-28, 30) While all shared the belief that deity was necessary to accomplish the task at hand, their approach regarding this truth varied.
- The king served false gods who had no power and therefore inquired in the wrong place. Consulting the wise men who likewise served these false gods was fruitless.
- The Chaldean wise men knew that they were limited yet were content to be deceptive.
- Daniel knew what was necessary and that he was limited, yet he served the only true GOD. He did not dare attempt to speak until he consulted and received word from the LORD GOD of Heaven and earth.
The king acknowledged that an interpretation not obtained from a divine source consisted of lying and corrupt words. (Daniel 2:9) While correct, he still would remain frustrated and ill-informed if he failed to consult the right divine source. Had he not tested the Chaldean wise men by requiring them to tell him the dream, he would have received a corrupt interpretation. Any explanation given by the pagan wise men would have come from their own intellect, seeing as how the gods they claimed to communicate with were lifeless. Daniel on the other hand consulted the only true and living GOD and only spoke what was revealed.
The application is still true for us. Desiring to know the answer to things regarding our eternal future, necessitates a response from a divine source. Yet, we must look in the right place and consult the proper source. Any revelation not received from the right source, is liable to be one of deceit and corruption. The proper source is the LORD GOD of Heaven and Earth. We may consult him today through the avenue of prayer and seeking an answer in the inspired scriptures, recorded, and preserved for us in the Bible. (2nd Timothy 3:16-17) (James 1:5-6) Just as Daniel, in seeking the answer to a divine question, we should not dare answer the matter until we consult and receive GOD’S answer.
