Add To Your Faith

In 2nd Peter 1:4-9, Peter identifies one who has “…escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (V4) and is growing in their new life.

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 2nd Peter 1:4-7

Note the attitude behind this growth. Diligence- spoudē spoo-day’ From G4692; speed, that is, (by implication) dispatch, eagerness, earnestness: – business, (earnest) care (-fulness), diligence forwardness, haste. Strongs

A new creation in Christ is to give all diligence and add to their faith. With eagerness add to your faith these things. Being a new creation in Christ requires action on behalf of the new creature. That action is adding.

Add- pichorēgeō ep-ee-khor-ayg-eh’-o From G1909 and G5524; to furnish besides, that is, fully supply, (figuratively) aid or contribute: – add, minister (nourishment, unto). Strongs

Add- to join (something) to something else to increase the size, number, or amount.

For the faith of a Christian to increase, it must be added to. The result of doing this, 2nd Peter 1:8 “For if these things be in you, and abound, (if they flourish, prosper, thrive, overflow in your life) they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

One who becomes a new creation in Christ yet does not join these things to their faith is unproductive and unprofitable in the knowledge of our LORD Jesus Christ.

(GW) “If you have these qualities and they are increasing, it demonstrates that your knowledge about our Lord Jesus Christ is living and productive.”
