What is your modus operandi?

After being stored for several years, Belshazzar called for the gold and silver vessels that were taken from the house of the LORD during the captivity and drank wine from them while praising idol gods. “In the same hour the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.” (Daniel 5:5)

Belshazzar, “…was so frightened that his face turned pale, his knees started shaking, and his legs became weak.” (CEV) (Daniel 5:5)

Like Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar called on the wise men of Babylon to provide an answer. For the one who could read and interpret the words on the wall, the king promised to clothe him in purple, place a gold chain around his neck and make him third in command. Unknowingly, the king’s offer would expire as would the king himself in a matter of hours as the Persian’s were closing in. The king’s wise men were unable to read the writing or make known the interpretation. It’s not surprising that the king’s wise men failed. This had become the MO for Babylon’s wise men. “Unable to make known the interpretation” describes the precise way in which they operated.

Daniel, whose MO was, “He is able”, He, being the LORD GOD MOST HIGH, was left out of the initial process; however, the queen spoke up and said, “There is a man…” Very similar to the language of Arioch in Daniel 2. After the wise men in Daniel 2 declared there is not a man on earth who could do what the king was asking, Nebuchadnezzar ordered that all the wise men be executed. Daniel asked for time, consulted GOD through prayer and was given the dream and its meaning. Arioch told Nebuchadnezzar; I have found a man who can fulfill your request. Daniel told the king, no wise man can, but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Daniel 2:28

Daniel’s credentials according to the queen: 1. Possessor of the Spirit of the Holy GOD… or in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. 2. Possessor of light, understanding and wisdom (like the gods…) 3. Made chief of Babylonian wise men… 4. Excellent spirit… 5. Knowledge… 6. Understanding… 7. Interpreting dreams… 8. Solving riddles… 9. Explains enigmas…

The man the Queen described had these abilities, however, he would take no credit for them or the positions that they had led him to in the kingdom. Daniel always gave GOD the glory. The Babylonian wise men’s MO was, “we are unable.” Daniel’s MO was, “My GOD is able.”
