New Birth > New Citizenship

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

An individual who experiences the new birth that Jesus speaks of in John 3:3, has been delivered from the captivity of sin. As a result of that deliverance, we are citizens of a New Kingdom. There are certain things required of one who desires citizenship in a new country. Likewise, there is an oath taken to pledge allegiance to the nation of which you are becoming a Citizen. Regarding the United States of America, the following is included in the process. “I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America …” www uscis gov citizenship

We undertake a similar oath, yet more profound, when we become Citizens of GOD’S Kingdom. We pledge to renounce our allegiance and fidelity absolutely and entirely to our earthly citizenship and vow loyalty and devotion to our heavenly citizenship.

“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. Ephesians 2:19

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:20

Born again believers are those whose residence is heaven. A citizen of heaven is on a journey. The world is not our home. We are pilgrims traveling to a city, whose builder is GOD.

Are you a citizen of heaven? Are you eagerly awaiting the return of the one responsible for your citizenship?

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

Have you been born again?
