In Christ> New Creature> Eternal Inheritance

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2nd Corinthians 5:17 

Individuals who have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ. (Galatians 3:27) Being buried with Christ in baptism, is to be baptized into His death. When we rise from the water, we are being resurrected. “…just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4

Being in Christ means that we are a new creation. Another way of saying this is, those in Christ are freshly formed. To be in Christ, means, you have a new beginning and are regarded as better than what you were before. You are better because citizens of GOD’S Kingdom stand to inherit something that non-citizens will not.

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1st Corinthians 6:9-10

Paul lists several things that would keep one from inheriting the Kingdom of GOD. These things and things such like” are actions of unrighteousness. Those who choose to walk a path of unrighteousness in this life, forfeits hope of the inheritance that may be gained in Christ. Those who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, will be the recipients of, “…everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power…”  2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9

In 1st Peter 1:3-5, Peter speaks of the inheritance for one who has become a new creation in Christ.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1st Peter 1:3-5

The Christian’s inheritance is described as incorruptible, undefiled, unfading, and reserved, in heaven. Being a new creature in Christ is better, because, in our former state we were unable to receive the inheritance spoken of in scripture.

Is our inheritance best described as an incorruptible, undefiled, unfading one, reserved in heaven, or, one of everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and the glory of His power.
