“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another…” Romans 12:10
The action of showing preference regarding one another is perhaps the most Christlike conduct that we may display. Preferring in this context is a quality of good leadership. Preferring pro-ay-geh’-om-ahee From G4253 and G2233; to lead the way for others, that is, show deference: – prefer, to concede or give way. The mark of a good leader is seeing the value in preferring another over yourself through the avenues of humility, submission, and respect.
Jesus considered it an honor of the highest degree to give preference to us over His own well-being. He led the way by deferring or conceding the power that accompanied His position for you and me. This does not mean that He stopped being divine or lost His power but rather conceded the employment of it for you and me.
“Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and He shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?” Matthew 26:53
“Come down off of the cross if thou be the Son of GOD…” Matthew 27:40.
He could have, however, He esteemed it an honor to concede that power and lead the way to eternal life. He gave preference to you and me.
