When asked the question “…is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?” (Matthew 19:3) Jesus answered by appealing to the instruction given to the 1st man and woman in Genesis 2:24.
“Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?” Matthew 19:4-5
“Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Genesis 2:24
From the beginning of creation, GOD’S decree for marriage was, one man and one woman for life. Although two, they become one. That has not changed.
“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Matthew 19:6
Marriage is a beautiful union in which GOD joins male and female. It should not be entered lightly, neither should man be any part of separating what God has joined together.
Shall a man divorce his wife for every cause? No, he shall not! Genesis 2:24
Shall a man love his wife as Christ loved the church? Yes, he shall! Ephesians 5:25
