Heaven is described in scripture as the eternal dwelling place of GOD. The book of Revelation paints a beautiful picture of how wonderful it will be in His presence for eternity. Revelation 22:1-5
Hell on the other hand is described in scripture as a place of torment. Symbolic language is used to described how terrible eternal separation from GOD will be. Revelation 21:7-8
If we believe that there is a place called heaven, then we must believe that there is a place called hell. The same Bible speaks of both places. While hell is not a topic that anyone likes to talk about, present company included, remaining silent, does not change the truth.
In 1st Kings 22, Ahab assembled four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to fight, or shall I refrain?” They said, “Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.” Jehoshaphat who was going with him, asked, is there another prophet we may inquire? Ahab said yes there is, but I hate him, he always prophesies against me. Ahab knew what GOD’S prophet would say, so he chose those who would tell him what he wanted to hear. However, this did not change the truth. Ahab, heard from GOD’S prophet warning him of the impending defeat, yet ignored the truth and perished.
“…to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power…” 2nd Thessalonians 1:7-9
If we do not know GOD and fail to obey the Gospel of our LORD Jesus Christ, separation from GOD and destruction are certain. Not liking this truth does not change it. However, we have the blessing and privilege of making a response that ensures a different outcome. Accept the truth, know GOD, obey the Good News of Jesus and live.
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so, shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1st Thessalonians 4:16-17
Remaining silent does not change the truth, but obeying the truth changes you.
