“For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1st Samuel 16:7
This was said by the LORD to Samuel when the sons of Jesse were being considered for king Saul’s replacement. Eliab was thought to have initially been the one by Samuel. Samuel made this determination based on outward appearance. It appears too often we make biased decisions motivated by this truth. While we may not want to admit it or sometimes do not even see it, we determine someone’s value, beauty, ability etc. based on nothing more than outward appearance. Maybe this is not true about you, if so, great. Be determined to continue to be this way. However, be sure before declaring yourself innocent. Sadly, I have found that I am sometimes guilty of making biased decisions based on the truth taught in 1st Samuel 16:6-7. If you find the same to be true about yourself, let us be determined to be better. If we can change our thinking from fleshly to godly, from outward to inward, from downward to upward, we can shine a light of positivity in a world often dominated by negativity.
