“Battle With Assurance”

When the Philistine giant Goliath, taunted Israel, challenging them to a one-on-one battle, no one in Israel’s camp accepted. “When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.” 1st Samuel 17:11

David however, said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” 1st Samuel 17:32

Saul told David, “You can’t fight this, Philistine. You are a boy, and he is a seasoned warrior.” But David’s confidence was not in his ability, but in that of his GOD. David entered the battle, with confidence that the victory was already decided. “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” 1st Samuel 17:37

Before facing him, David said to Goliath, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hand.” 1st Samuel 17:45-47

Had David entered battle, thinking it was his fight, he would have been utterly defeated. But David knew the battle belonged to the LORD. David alone was no match for Goliath, but he knew that GOD was with him. The Philistine giant was no match for GOD. We too must possess this mentality as we battle Satan. Alone, my adversary will devour me, but I am not alone. The battle belongs to the LORD and the devil is no match for my LORD. Knowing the outcome has already been decided, I am able to stand.

Christians, we have victory through Jesus Christ our LORD.
