Providential Irony

GOD said to Abram, “Know of a surety, that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years and also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.” Genesis 15:13-14

In the days of Shiphrah, Puah and Jochebed (Exodus 1-2) the time spoken of in Genesis 15, was being fulfilled. These women of great faith were recognized and blessed by GOD when they chose faith in GOD over fear of man. The King of Egypt had no regard for the sanctity of life, ordering that all infant males be put to death. (Exodus 1:16;22) Shiphrah, Puah and Jochebed said no to the king and yes to GOD. After being enraged by the decision of Shiphrah and Puah to choose life over death, Pharaoh considered his ensuing plan to throw all infant males into the Nile River, infallible. Yet by faith, one infant male was providentially preserved. The one providentially preserved, was named Moses and would be Israel’s future deliverer. Although Pharoah considered his plan foolproof, He was made the fool by GOD. Moses was already part of an infallible plan, one formulated by the Sovereign GOD of heaven and earth. Not only did GOD preserve the life of Moses, but He used the Egyptian king to provide a home and the necessities of life for Israel’s future deliverer. (Exodus 2:8-10, Hebrews 11:24-26)
