Desire Plus Diligence Equals Success

“The soul of a lazy man desires and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.”Proverbs 13:4

A desire for growth is to be commended. Where there is no desire for growth, there will be none. But desire alone does not produce results. Want, without action, at best leaves us stationary and at worst in decline. However, desire for growth paired with diligence will yield a rich increase. Throughout the book of Acts, the LORD’S church grew significantly. On the day of Pentecost, the LORD’S church grew by three thousand. (Acts 2:41) The number continued to grow in Acts 4. “…many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.” (Acts 4:4) After the conversion of Saul, “…the churches had rest throughout all Judaea, Galilee, and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.” (Acts 9:31) In the context surrounding these confirmations of growth, we find diligent Christians busy preaching, teaching, and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These individuals were working together, sacrificing themselves for one another and for the cause of Christ. Desire for growth is important, but unless it is coupled with a diligent work ethic and truth; it simply will not happen. Let us all strive to be more diligent in our efforts to grow individually and collectively.
