Paul’s apostleship and authenticity of the message he preached was under attack by certain false teachers in the province of Galatia. In his defense of the Gospel, he passionately maintains that his calling to be an apostle was not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead. In Galatians 1:11-12 Paul writes, “I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.” In Galatians 2:2, he states that his return trip to Jerusalem was likewise by revelation. Regarding spiritual matters, it is crucial that we too only act according to GOD’S revelation and only teach what He has revealed to us. GOD’S word reveals the Gospel that we are to preach. The Gospel is singular. In other words, there is not Good News for me and Good News of a different sort for you. Paul was amazed that the Galatians were turning from the grace that they were called into, unto another Gospel, which he quickly adds is actually nonexistent. Galatians 1:6-7 For one who would preach a perverted Gospel, Paul writes, let him be accursed. By the revelation of GOD’S mind, recorded in the scriptures, we can know the Gospel, respond to the Gospel, and preach the Gospel of Christ. Let us all strive to be diligent to live our lives according to GOD’S revelation and to be careful to look no further than the holy scriptures for that revelation.
