“Preach the message I tell you…” “Diminish not a word.”

Regarding the city of Nineveh, GOD charged Jonah, “preach to it the message that I tell you…” (Jonah 3:2)

GOD instructed Jeremiah: “…Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, ALL THE WORDS THAT I COMMAND THEE TO SPEAK UNTO THEM; DIMINISH NOT A WORD…”(Jeremiah 26:2)

Jonah and Jeremiah were not at liberty to choose a different message or weaken the message that they had been given. They were to simply “Preach the message given without diminishing a word.”

Has the principle set forth in Jonah 3:2 and Jeremiah 26:2 changed?

GOD charged Jonah (BBE) “…give it the word which I have given you.” Jonah 3:2

GOD charged Jeremiah (ERV) “…Tell them everything that I tell you to speak. Do not leave out any part of My message.” Jeremiah 26:2

As children of GOD, we have the same duty. We must preach the message that GOD has given us and diminish not a word of it. When we do nothing more or less, we have done our duty in the most complete way possible.

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” (2nd Timothy 4:2)
