The Divine Blessing of Children

“Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psalm 127:3

Heritage, in this context, is understood as the status, condition, or character one inherits by birth within a particular family or social class. This status, condition, or character is considered to be that of the Lord, which would be one of innocence. The state and condition of a child in the womb is an inheritance that comes from the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is a reward. The womb, where a child lives before birth, is a divine blessing from God. The womb should be a place where a child is protected and nourished. Sadly, this is not always true.

Psalm 106:34-38 the Psalmist addresses certain transgressions GOD’S people were guilty of. They did not deal with the nations around them as the LORD had commanded and were influenced by their wicked ways. “They even sacrificed their sons And their daughters to demons, and shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood.” (Psalm 106:37-38) The children whom God’s people sacrificed in these idolatrous rituals are charged with shedding blood of the innocent. As declared by God, the blood of these children was not guilty of any crime or offense. They were pure, uncorrupted by evil, and free from sin, yet were put to death.

Do not be deceived, whether in or out of the womb, to take the life of a child is to take the life of one who is innocent.
