Cultivating Mutual Appreciation in Your Church

(NKJV) “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another…” Romans 12:10

If every member of a local church adheres to the practice of preferring one another, feelings of neglect or lack of appreciation would disappear. In honor, giving preference means, someone will always make you feel valued, and you, in turn, will value others. This cycle of mutual appreciation ensures that no one feels neglected. Adopting the principles of Romans 12:10 will remove the obstacles of jealousy, pride and superiority that sometimes cripples the work of the LORD’S church. Envy and pride are not an issue when they have nowhere to grow. Jealousy disappears when we are busy helping others. Participation is a choice. We possess the ability to either improve or complicate each other’s lives. Overlooking the teachings of Romans 12:10 leads to the neglect of our brethren and creates obstacles for them. They may attempt to follow the example set by our Savior in Philippians 2, yet still feel unappreciated and overlooked, which can cultivate envy, pride, jealousy, and complacency. My commitment to live as a Romans 12:10 Christian stands, regardless of the choices of others. However, consider how much easier it would be if not just a few, but an entire congregation was eager and put into practice the art of honoring and preferring one another. Who among us would be in need?

(GW) Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.
