Philippians 4:10-13
The phrase “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me…” does not imply that Jesus will help in winning a football game or provide strength for a game-winning shot. Rather, through Jesus, whether I am on top of the mountain or in the depths of the valley, I can be satisfied and feel triumphant. Why? Because Jesus has triumphed over sin and death. Therefore, whether I live or die, I am victorious. In poverty, Paul lived for Christ. In abundance, Paul lived for Christ. When Paul urges the saints in Philippi to practice what they had learned, received, heard, and seen in him, he is encouraging a life lived for Christ. A life lived for Christ is a life of contentment, because we are strengthened by Christ through our knowledge and trust of what was accomplished in His death, burial and resurrection.
