We live in a judgmental society, while I do not believe this to be a new trend, the culture we live in offers greater opportunities to express judgement. Most judgement involves evaluating the motives of others. While some cases may be clear based on the evidence one has produced, others are not. We cannot read the hearts of others, and to suggest that we always know what people are thinking, what they meant by their words, or their actions, is just not possible. Judging one’s motives is something better left for God; He will surely sort these things out. He knows why we do the things we do, whether good or bad.
That is a very sobering thought but can be a great advantage to us personally.
Why am I showing kindness? Is it to just be kind or is there an ulterior motive?
Why am I sharing this piece of information with another about my friend? Is it my intention to help or is my true motive simply to start a fire by using a small spark?
God knows my motive. Keeping that in mind can greatly benefit us. Yes, we can deceive ourselves and others, however, God is never deceived.
