Why the Fear of the Lord is Key to Knowledge (Proverbs 1)

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV)

In Proverbs 1:7, the word “beginning” means, “… first, in place, time, order or rank (specifically a first-fruit): – beginning, chief (-est), first (-fruits, part, time), principal thing.” Strongs

In (order of rank) regarding knowledge, fear of the Lord is the principal thing that must come 1st. The ability to have substantial, meaningful knowledge, that acts and grows requires reverential fear of the Lord.

Respect for the Lord will result in wisdom and acceptance of His instruction, which will make for a successful life spiritually, that leads to an eternal home with Him.
