In Proverbs 4:5-9 the message of the Father to the son is, get wisdom and understanding. “Do not forget her, do not forsake her, love her, exalt her and embrace her.” Wisdom is something that the Father wants the son to hide deep within his heart.
(Proverbs 4:7) Wisdom is the principal thing.
The Hebrew word for “principal thing” in Proverbs 4:7, is the same word used for the word beginning in Proverbs 1:7. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge…” It is also the same word used for beginning in Genesis 1:1. In the beginning or 1st in time GOD created the heavens and the earth. In Proverbs 4:7 it is used regarding wisdom.
Godly wisdom must be placed on a pedestal and regarded as the principal thing that we must obtain. When wisdom is hidden in our heart, there is no room for sin. The benefits of getting wisdom first in Proverbs 4:5-9 are preservation, protection, promotion, and honor.
“Do not forget her, do not forsake her, love her, exalt her and embrace her.”
Be faithful to wisdom and she will be faithful to you.
