“Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so, where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.” (Proverbs 26:20-22)
The fire signifies conflict, while wood represents gossip or the talebearer. Without fuel, the fire will cease; however, by keeping a steady supply of wood, it will continue to burn and spread, leading to massive destruction. The same applies to gossip: we can either contribute to the destruction or help to end it.
