The Consequences of Ignoring Correction

Proverbs 29:1

(KJV) He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

(ERV) Some people refuse to bend when someone corrects them. Eventually they will break, and there will be no one to repair the damage.

The individual described in Proverbs 29:1 is one who is repeatedly corrected or reproved yet becomes more stubborn each time. There is no effort to change. In due time, that person will find themselves on the losing end, reaching a point where there is no remedy. GOD is such a longsuffering Father with us, He does not act hastily. If He did none of us who would last very long. It is not so much about messing up, but how we respond to the discipline that we receive. If someone is often corrected for lying and they stiffen their neck and continue, in due time, sudden destruction will come upon them and there will be a situation that cannot be remedied. The Father warned the son about sexual immorality and walking down the harlot’s street earlier in Proverbs. If the son continued to do that their would-be destruction without remedy. You cannot undo things. Someone who repeatedly puts off accepting the gift of salvation; ignores the correction to turn to Jesus and will in due time find themselves experiencing sudden destruction and facing a situation where there is no remedy. This is a sad and frightening place to be. Let us ensure we are not that person. We all make mistakes, but when we do, let us be the person who accepts corrections and strives to do better.

(GNB) If you get more stubborn every time you are corrected, one day you will be crushed and never recover.
