The Call to Serve After Deliverance

God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered and having been set free from sin, you became slaves (servants) of righteousness.” Romans 6:17-18

It is incorrect to suggest that no responsibility or action is expected of us following our deliverance. It begins with serving God and naturally extends to serving one another.

Jesus consistently taught this throughout His ministry on earth as He served others. Through His example, Jesus taught His disciples to serve. He demonstrated this to such a level that He declined to ask for His own deliverance in order that He might provide deliverance for us.

“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose, I came to this hour. John 12:27

As the cross was bearing down on Jesus He forfeited deliverance of Himself in order that he might provide deliverance for the world.

When Jesus forfeited His personal deliverance, He served humanity.

Let us never forget, we are freed to serve!
