“Whosoever committeth sin also transgresses the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” 1st John 3:4
Transgress- infringe or go beyond the bounds of (a moral principle or other established standard of behavior) The transgression that ends in sin occurs when one exceeds what God has permitted. It is a violation of God’s law. The necessity for one to go beyond the law in order to commit sin clearly indicates that an action must be taken or a decision made.
“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” James 1:13-15
When the temptation to transgress GOD’S law occurs, James writes that no one should claim it is God tempting them to do wrong. God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt any man with it. God is holy, and sin cannot dwell in His presence. Just as this is true, God does not lure or invite anyone to sin. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were instructed not to eat from a certain tree. It was not God’s intention to entice them into sinning. It was His desire that they remain obedient and trust in His Word which revealed the command and consequence. Yet, they chose to eat and violated the Law that God had set forth. The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom. Lust of the eye, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Man is not tempted of God, “…but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away…” or lured away “…of his own lust…” Desire and longing of the flesh is within us all. When we allow these desires to draw us away and an opportunity arises in which we act, it results in sin, and sin, when fully grown, gives birth to death. However, I have a choice whether I will go beyond the will of GOD. Right or wrong, I decide.
