Self-Edifying
Specific roles within the body of Christ were established to perfect and complete the saints, to carry out the work of the ministry, and to edify the body.
Edification in the church is the act of spiritually building up. It is undeniably a responsibility and necessity for God’s people.
Consider: Ephesians 4:11-16
The idea of being fitly joined together stresses unity. In Christ, there is harmony. Each joint plays a crucial role in holding everything together, with every part being essential. God designed the body to function as He intended, naturally strengthening and building itself up. He created the church to be self-sustaining and self-edifying. There is no need or authority to go beyond the boundaries set by GOD to edify the church. When the church follows GOD’S pattern, it will naturally strengthen itself being built up in love. This is how God designed it.
(GW) “He makes the whole body fit together and unites it through the support of every joint. As each and every part does its job, he makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” (Ephesians 4:16)
(GNB) “Under his control all the different parts of the body fit together, and the whole body is held together by every joint with which it is provided. So when each separate part works as it should, the whole body grows and builds itself up through love.” (Ephesians 4:16)
