As result of jealousy, Daniel’s adversaries sought to rid themselves of him by finding fault against him regarding kingdom matters. However, Daniel was found above reproach within the Medo Persian empire. Those seeking his downfall turned to His greatest strength in an effort to destroy him, that being his loyalty to His GOD and GOD’S Law. “We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.” (Daniel 6:5) Therefore, they presented the king with a plan to establish a royal statute and issue a firm decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being for the space of thirty days, except the king, would be thrown into the lions’ den. They urged the king to put it in writing knowing that it could not be altered in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians. (Daniel 6:6-7)
This declaration was proposed because like the decree itself, his enemies knew that Daniel approached his relationship with GOD in like manner. Daniel considered his commitment to GOD, as irrevocable and one he would not purposely violate despite the cost. An irrevocable decree imposed upon one with an irrevocable faith, seemed fool proof for the conspirators, however, while neither the decree nor Daniel’s commitment wavered, Daniel’s adversaries failed as GOD delivered Daniel from the lion’s den.
How strong is our commitment to GOD? Do we regard our faith as irrevocable? Do others know this about us?
