“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2nd Timothy 3:16-17)
The holy scripture is GOD-breathed.
Throughout His time on earth, Jesus often quoted from the GOD breathed written word. After His resurrection, while walking with two men on the road to Emmaus, Jesus listened as they tried to make sense of the recent events concerning His crucifixion. Jesus responded, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (Luke 24:25-27)
From the written word, Jesus explained what had happened to Him.
Later in (Luke 24:44-49) Jesus appealed to those things “…written in the law of Moses, in the prophets, and in the psalms…” He opened “…their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures…” saying, “Thus it is written…” V47 “that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name (or by His authority) among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
The message they were to share came from the fulfillment of what was written about Jesus in the scriptures.
The appeal of Jesus to the scriptures and Paul’s declaration that all scripture is God-breathed should eliminate any reluctance about the divine authority and trustworthiness of the written word.
