God’s Kingdom Established With Power

Men and women are studying the same Bible. bible background

“Verily I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.” Mark 9:1

This teaches that the kingdom of GOD would come with power in the lifetime of 1st century residents. In spite of the clear distinctions outlined in Daniel 2:44, which painted a picture of an everlasting Kingdom that would never be destroyed, with GOD as its architect, many were still looking for and anticipating one born to wealthy parents in Jerusalem, with good looks, a strong military background, and a grand palace filled with earthly pleasures. When the supposed king was born in a manger to a poor servant girl, was later brought up in Nazareth, ate with sinners and tax collectors and just could not stop talking about dying, many were confused, angry and unsure about this man, who claimed to be the Son of GOD. Some responded by killing the king. Those who were looking for a literal, physical Kingdom with an earthly ruler within a certain geographical location such as Jerusalem had a flawed view.

While Jesus would certainly be King and the establishment of the kingdom would begin in Jerusalem, it was not limited to the borders of Zion, nor was its King (Jesus) confined to a literal seat there.

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” Isaiah 2:2-3

When Jesus burst forth from the grave, defeating death, the stage was set for the Kingdom to emerge with power, and it did just that.

Acts 1:6-8

Acts 2 the Kingdom grew as 3,000.

Acts 4:4 the number had increased to 5,000.

Acts 6:7 the kingdom was multiplying.

Acts 9, “the kingdom,” “the Church” spread to Judea, Galilee, and Samaria

“…the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister…” (Colossians 1:23)

We can be added as a Citizen to GOD’S everlasting Kingdom today, in the same way those in the 1st century were added.

“Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.” Acts 2:41
