“Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him and set him in the midst of them and said, Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:1-3
The disciples were asking about greatness, but Jesus focused on the character needed for entry. He emphasized that the heart is what matters.
By bringing the child forward, Jesus highlighted humility and trust. The term “converted” refers to a change or transformation, turning away from one mindset to another. Jesus taught that without this change of heart—turning away from pride and selfishness and embracing humility and selflessness—we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
True greatness lies in humility and a heart aligned with God’s values. (V4) “Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
