God’s love is difficult for me to grasp because of its incredible depth. The Bible not only describes God as showing love but also reveals that He is love itself.
(GOD IS LOVE) (1st John 4:7) LOVE is the nature of who He is.
The word for love in 1st John 4 is ἀγάπη agapē ag-ah’-pay From G25; love, that is, affection or benevolence; specifically (plural) a love feast: – (feast of) charity ([-ably]), dear, love.
When the Bible says that GOD is love, scripture is identifying Him as affectionate and benevolent.
Affectionate- readily feeling or showing fondness or tenderness…
Benevolent – marked by or disposed to doing good…
GOD is eagerly and voluntarily disposed to showing fondness or tenderness. The word love that describes GOD designates Him as one who is actively involved. GOD does not merely sit on His throne in Heaven declaring His love in word alone. His love, like His word, is living and active; it is seen and is motivated by His want.
Benevolence and affection are qualities that are inspired by desire; GOD’S love is a “want to” kind of love. I am very thankful that GOD wants to love me.
