Following God’s Example: The Importance of Finishing

After saying, “In the beginning GOD created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:2 says, “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.”

The words “without form” “void” and “darkness” describe an unfinished vision. Desolate, empty, vacant and obscurity are words found in the definitions.

In Proverbs 8:22-31 Wisdom is personified and speaks of her role in creation.

“The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.” Proverbs 8:22-23

God’s perfect plan existed in His mind long before the earth was formed. It was set into motion when He created the heavens and the earth, yet at that moment, the plan was still not complete. Had He stopped after what is said in Genesis 1:1-2, the earth would have been desolate, empty and vacant. It would have been a place of obscurity. The completed vision was good; it would declare the glory of GOD and the great expanse would show the power in the work of His hands. But to begin and not finish, rather than amazing and glorious, we would be left with obscure and barren.

However, GOD, did not start and stop, rather, He said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” Genesis 1:3 and He continued until, “The heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.” Genesis 2:1

How closely are we following the pattern set by our Creator? How often do we make plans but fail to follow through? Maybe we follow part of the plan but never finish. Sharing the Gospel of Christ is a beautiful plan, divinely given by GOD. When executed and completed bears beautiful fruit and declares the glorious power of GOD to save man.

But if we never move beyond the planning stage or merely begin, failing to follow through until the work is completed, rather than amazing and glorious, we contribute to the darkness, emptiness and obscurity that the Gospel we failed to share could have driven out.

GOD not only planned but also put the plan in action and finished.

How closely are we following the pattern set by our Creator?
