“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
Representatives from various churches who may place themselves under the umbrella of Christianity, gathering to promote unity is a worthwhile initiative if built upon the foundation of adhering to the truth found in the Bible. However, if the desire for unity causes us to compromise truth we have taken a step in the wrong direction. Sadly a good portion of unity that has come from ecumenical movements has been the result of negotiating or simply ignoring truth. This has led to further spiritual digression, where those who initially sought spiritual unity began to seek friendship with the world. For fear of man, many church leaders have reinterpreted the Scripture to align with social norms, resulting in the neglect of biblical authority. Although GOD is clear in His word, the desire to please men is often stronger than the desire to please GOD. This has produced the fruit of inclusion. Inclusion in the sense of going above and beyond the borders that GOD has set. We are not forced to follow Him, but we have no right to move the boundary lines He has drawn. We have no right to include in His name what He has not included. We have no right to affirm in His name what He has not affirmed. We have no right to authorize in His name what He has not authorized.
“For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are in your midst deceive you, nor listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed. For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them, says the LORD.” Jeremiah 29:8-9
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1-2
