“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” Proverbs 30:5-6

“In nature, gold is often mixed with silver, copper, or other metals, and can carry impurities from the ore. Ancient Greek goldsmiths used a method called cupellation, heating gold in a porous clay vessel over a charcoal bed so that base metals and impurities oxidized and were absorbed into the clay, leaving behind pure gold. The writer of Proverbs 30:5, describes the Word of GOD as the finished product. Unlike gold, impurities need not be removed from GOD’S Word. It is naturally in a state of purity. Because GOD’s word is inherently pure, He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. He is a protector; a defense, to those who seek refuge in Him.
The word shield is used when GOD makes His covenant with Abraham in Genesis 15:1. “After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” Genesis 15:1
Because the word of GOD in its natural state is toxin free, He is naturally a protector, but only to those who put their trust in Him. The covenant GOD made with Abraham, was certain because GOD said it. GOD would be his shield and exceedingly great reward, because He said so. His word is free from the pollutants of dishonesty, inconsistency, and slothfulness; therefore His covenant was trustworthy. Still, Abraham had to put his trust in Him. He had to surrender to GOD and His word, but He could do that with certainty because of the purity of His word.
Based on the truth regarding His word, GOD is referenced as a shield multiple times in Psalms. “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” Psalm 18:30
Because His Word is free from anything contaminating, nothing needs to be removed. It is naturally in a state of purity. Therefore, “Do not add to His words…” (Proverbs 30:6) To add to it, would be to pollute it. To attach something new to it is to poison it. The word of GOD itself always remains pure, but when we add to it we no longer have the pure word of GOD, we have a polluted version of it. We have infected it with deceit, corrupting the truth within.
One who dares add to the word of GOD, will be rebuked, and found to be a liar.
