When a news outlet feels that something is important enough to interrupt regular programming it is called breaking news. This isnews about an event that has just happened and perhaps is still in progress. It may be a weather-related situation where safety is being threatened. Perhaps something tragic has happened and the newscast wants to inform us because it is meaningful to our way of life. It could be some joyous occasion that we celebrate for a little while and then move on. Regardless of what the breaking news is, at some point the broadcast ends and it is no longer breaking news. The event may be remembered on its anniversary. Perhaps every decade or some type of 25th anniversary memorial, regardless, while it may still have some impact on our life, the news becomes old news, and we move on no matter how significant the event may have been. The gospel is a different kind of news. The Gospel is always breaking news. When reported it has the ability to personally impact the one hearing in that very moment. Although the event of the death burial and resurrection of Jesus happened nearly 2000 years ago, what happened then still profoundly affects what is happening presently in the lives of all humanity. It is timeless news because the Gospel of Christ is the power of God unto Salvation. Romans 1:16
The apostle Paul wrote, “I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us…” (Romans 8:18) Paul was deeply convinced of this because he understood the glorious nature of the gospel and its saving power. He knew that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself… (2nd Corinthians 5:18)
The Gospel has the safety of our soul in mind.
The LORD will take “…vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2nd Thessalonians 1:8
When we believe and respond to the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ, we immediately have one who delivers us from the sin that has imprisoned us. We have a rescuer from our greatest enemy, an enemy that we could not defeat. Immediately, we have victory in Christ. This is Good News!
The Gospel is ever-interrupting news that breaks in to our busy lives and invades our heart. It is news about something that has happened yet is still happening. Our soul’s safety is in danger; the Gospel eliminates that danger. When we respond to the Gospel call, it is joyous news and occasion of celebration.
When Philip preached the Gospel in Samaria “…there was great joy in that city.” Acts 8:8
“…when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.” Acts 8:12
Allow the Gospel to interrupt the regular programing of your fleshly life, obey and rejoice!
